The Chosen is a historical drama series created, directed and co-written by American filmmaker Dallas Jenkins. It is the first multi-season series about the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Jenkins, the series' creator, wanted to create a series about Jesus that could be "binge watched", and hoped to distinguish the new series from previous portrayals of Jesus by crafting a multi-season, episode-based story. Jenkins' intention was to focus more deeply on the people who encountered Jesus and to show Jesus "through the eyes of those who met him", in a way that is more "personal, intimate, and immediate." Set in 1st century Israel, the series revolves around Jesus and the different people who met and followed him.
